JJ Johnson

Chef at Fieldtrip (New York, USA)

JJ Johnson’s cooking acts as a powerful connector of cultures: from the Caribbean flavours of his childhood to well-travelled international cuisine.

His cooking breaks down barriers to link the cultural baggage of Africa, Asia and America, and also combines culturally relevant ingredients with modern techniques. Acknowledged by Eater as one of the New Guard of Power in NYC Dining, this chef is synonymous with establishing cultural links through food.

He works in the Ingrained Hospitality Concepts group with whom he opened the Fieldtrip restaurant, a fast-casual restaurant located in Harlem that has made rice in its various versions around the world its hallmark.

He is also committed to the New York Food Bank in its fight against hunger.
