The Bar Martínez in Ordizia, Keler 2020 Bar of Bars Award

 

With years of history and several generations behind it, the Bar Martínez in Ordizia has been named winner of the Keler 2020 Bar of Bars Award. It follows on from the Bar Bokado in San Sebastián, which won the competition in its first year.

The Bar Martínez, the doyen of the hospitality sector in Ordizia, and probably in its local area -the Goierri-, with 130 years of history, has won the Keler 2020 Bar of Bars Award at San Sebastian Gastronomika this Friday. 

Now run by Xabier Martínez, it has obtained the scepter “as it harbours the very essence of Basque bars, premises that revere products and become meeting places”, the organisers explained. In the case of the Bar Martínez, it also meets the latter condition year after year during the Ordizia Cheese Competition, when it becomes a meeting place for fellow chefs from all over the country.

The Bar Martínez takes over from the Bar Bokado in San Sebastián, which won the award in the first year that it was presented during the Pintxos and Tapas Congress that was held at Gastronomika in 2019.
